INTELLIBED FRANCHISES GROWING NATIONWIDE
Salt Lake City, Utah—Advanced Comfort Technologies, Inc., the national franchise company that is the exclusive manufacturer and distributor of IntelliBed sleep products, is planning to open 18 to 24 stores across the country and internationally within the next year. Since Advanced Comfort Technologies launched its first store in Sept. 2002 in Salt Lake City, the company has opened 22 additional franchise or company-owned stores in eight states (Utah, California, Nevada, Arizona, Colorado, Texas, Missouri and Idaho) and Canada.
According to Advanced Comfort Technologies President Bob Rasmussen, new IntelliBed stores will be opened in six to eight yet-to-be-determined new markets in 2006. Each market area will typically include the opening of three new stores, one owned by Advanced Comfort Technologies and the other two owned by an area franchise partner.
“The IntelliBed stores are really designed to educate the public about sleep wellness issues. In addition to carrying a full line of IntelliBed products—including mattresses, pillows, sheets and mattress toppers—each store will have other types of mattress technologies on site so people can really compare products side-by-side. Each store will have innerspring mattresses, memory foam mattresses and air mattresses for people to compare to the IntelliBed mattresses. What’s more, the stores are all equipped with a high-tech pressure mapping system that can instantly show people how their body weight is being distributed on each of the different mattress products,” Rasmussen said.
The IntelliBed products are made of Intelli-Gel, a honeycomb-patterned material that is also used on Jansport backpacks, Callaway and Cleveland golf bag straps, and Dr. Scholl’s massaging gel shoe insoles.
“The use of Intelli-Gel in mattress products is not a new venture. Since 1998, a sister licensee, Gaymar Industries, has marketed a line of mattress products that use Intelli-Gel for hospitals. These products have been proven in clinical testing to cure bed sores, and they’re frequently used to comfort burn patients. Prior to being used in hospitals, Intelli-Gel was tested and proven to be mold resistant, hypoallergenic and non-toxic. In addition, our own tests have shown that unlike conventional mattresses, products made from Intelli-Gel don’t diminish in support over time like conventional mattresses. While many sleep experts suggest that conventional mattresses be replaced every seven years or so, our studies have shown that even after 20 years of use, our IntelliBeds retain their original qualities,” Rasmussen added.
Intelli-Gel was invented by the Utah-based company, EdiZONE, L.C. Prior to developing the IntelliBed products, Rasmussen worked for EdiZONE. At EdiZONE, he helped develop the material and set up marketing and manufacturing relationships for the company.
